Your itinerary

Day 1
Keflavík–Reykjavík

After arriving at the Keflavík International Airport, you will be met and driven the 45 kilometres to your hotel, the Reykjavík Konsúlat Hotel, Curio Collection by Hilton in Iceland’s capital city. In the early evening, you will take a short walk along the harbour to the impressive Harpa concert hall. Here, at the top-class Kolabrautin Ristorante restaurant, you will enjoy an exquisite dinner. As a prelude to dinner, you will be introduced to some typical Icelandic quirks by a local artist. The 30-minute sketch is called “How to become Icelandic in 30 minutes” and is guaranteed to make you laugh.

Did you know…? The full Icelandic name of the capital’s opera house and concert hall, which was reopened in the year 2011, is Harpa – Tónlistar- og ráðstefnuhúsið í Reykjavík. The building is home to both the Icelandic Symphony Orchestra and the Icelandic Opera. Its spectacular facade was designed by artist Olafur Eliasson.

Day 2
Reykjavík–Hellisheiði Power Station–Úlfljótsvatn

Before you get comfortable behind the wheel, we invite you to participate on a morning walk through Reykjavík. After making acquaintance with Iceland’s capital city, your exploration of the island country can commence: Your drive today will take you past vast lava fields and towards the southern coast. The location for your first lunch stop of the trip is a highly unusual one: the Hellisheiði Power Station, one of the world’s largest and most modern geothermal power plants. Here, you will not only get some well-earned rest and replenishment, but also gain fascinating insights into the many uses of geothermal energy in Iceland. The day’s driving highlight will doubtless be the Nesjavellir route leading to Thingvellir National Park. This narrow, meandering stretch of asphalt takes you straight through breathtaking gorges of the area’s famed rift valley. In the late afternoon, you will arrive at the exclusive Eldar Lodge, which will be your home for the following two nights.

Our tip: A particular high point is the Nesjavellir route to Thingvellir National Park. It is one of the most demanding stages of the Icelandic Rally Championship, and driving it in a Porsche 911 promises to be an unforgettable experience.

Day 3
Úlfljótsvatn–Langjökull–Úlfljótsvatn

Day three is all about Iceland’s natural wonders, and will see you explore the glacier and volcano landscape of the country’s magical highlands. On the itinerary are the Geysir geothermal region, the Gullfoss waterfalls and the Langjökull glacier. To be reached by Porsche, snowmobile and helicopter. At lunchtime, you will stop at a mountain hut for a rustic meal and the opportunity to replenish your energy for the coming activities; activities that are certain to take your breath away. In the evening, you will be treated to a traditional Icelandic dinner prepared by a private chef and served in the exclusive atmosphere of Eldar Lodge.

Did you know…? The name Gullfoss means golden waterfall. According to legend, the name has its origins in the story of the farmer Gýgur from Gýgjarhóll farm, who could not bear the thought of someone inheriting all his gold after he died. He therefore threw the chest containing his gold into the waterfall, thus giving it its name: Gullfoss.

Day 4
Úlfljótsvatn–Hvalfjörður–Snæfellsnes

Day four will take you to Iceland’s outer western edges for yet more automotive adventure. Via winding roads, you will cross the elevated plains at Mosfellsheiði, enjoying the stunning views of the mountains and the fjord. After a quick stop at the coast for lunch, you will continue on to the Snæfellsnes peninsula. The view of the world-famous Snæfellsjökull volcano as well as the drive around it, passing the Arctic Ocean, the crater landscape and the mighty lava flows are sure to delight you in equal measure. Later on at the luxurious Hótel Búðir, your home for the night, you will delve deeper still into Iceland’s secrets. Awaiting you here will be one of the country’s best-known storytellers, who, with her in-depth knowledge and typically Icelandic humour, will treat you to an evening of the country’s myths and legends.

Did you know...? In his novel Journey to the Centre of the Earth, Jules Verne referred to Snæfellsjökull as being the entrance to the centre of the earth. With its once fiery throat covered in snow and ice, the volcano is a perfect emblem for a country known as the land of fire and ice.

Day 5
Snæfellsnes–Siglufjörður

Another day of varied driving awaits you. You will travel from the country’s western edge up to its craggy north, almost as far as the Arctic Circle. During the trip, the more courageous among you will have the chance to try the traditional Icelandic speciality known as hákarl. After a lunch overlooking the Miðfjörður Fjord, you will head towards the picturesque town of Siglufjörður in your Porsche 911. Around the year 1900, Siglufjörður was one of Iceland’s most populous towns, the herring boom having created gold rush-like conditions. Find out more about the region’s golden era during a very special evening at the local Herring Era Museum.

Our tip: With a bit of luck, the Northern Lights will appear during your stay, lighting up the night skies with their spectacular natural fireworks. The hotel will be happy provide you with a wake-up call should they appear.

Day 6
Snæfellsbær
–Akureyri–Reykjavík

On day six, you will be picked up at the hotel by speedboat for an experience unlike any other: a whale watching tour. You will then embark on the final drive of your trip, to Akureyri. From here, you will travel by chartered flight over the Icelandic highlands and back to Reykjavík. You will spend you final evening at the newly opened hotel The Retreat at Blue Lagoon Iceland. Located on the Blue Lagoon, this luxury hotel is a fitting finale to the unforgettable Porsche Travel Experience Iceland.

Did you know…? The whales that you see in the Eyjafjörður are very likely to be humpback whales. This whale type can reach a length of 12 to 15 metres and is known for its distinctive song.

Day 7
Reykjavík

On day seven, we will drive you by individual shuttle to nearby Keflavík International Airport in time for your flight. And while this may mark the end of your trip through Iceland, your memories of the last seven days are certain to endure for a very long time to come.

Did you know…? With only around 350,000 inhabitants, Iceland is Europe’s most sparsely populated country. At the same time, its standard of living and per capita income are among the highest in the world. Iceland is also renowned for its men’s football team, which garnered worldwide fame thanks to the spectacular chants of its fans during the 2016 UEFA European Championship. The Icelandic team also achieved one of the aforementioned tournament’s biggest upsets with its surprising victory over England and resulting place in the quarter finals.
